About us…
We are a relatively small Photographic Group of all abilities, whose interests are in all aspects and techniques of photography, we try to appeal to anyone wishing to improve their photographic skills. You will find us a friendly group, come along and see what we do. Since its inception, the Weston-Super-Mare Camera Club, the Group has aimed to be in the forefront of innovation and change, always ready to adapt to the ever-changing medium of photography. We encompass all aspects of digital image making, and enthusiastically enter external competitions. The Group is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, through The Western Counties Photographic Federation - WCPF, membership of which gives us the opportunity to invite visiting speakers and experts who are regularly featured within a comprehensive programme. Critique evenings, when these experts appraise our work, are popular and serve to improve our standard of photography. Please feel free to browse this site and take a look at some of what we do, and what our Club is all about. Our members' images are superb and well worth a look! You will find lots of information using the pages at the top. Visit the 'news' pages for all the latest going on at our Club. |
An introduction to Bleadon Photographic Group
The Group formed back on the 28th April 1948 as Weston-Super-Mare Cine & Camera Society. Over the years it has used 5 different meeting venues around the town of Weston-Super-Mare, the latest being the Coronation Hall at Bleadon, which gave rise to the change in name.
Members are issued a program /calendar of events at the start of the club year (September).
During the months of June, July and August we endeavour to hold outdoors practical meetings and the dates and venues are announced to members, as and when we finalise the arrangements.
Please enjoy the Group and participate in the many, varied activities we have to offer. Members are actively encouraged to try out the club’s full programme and contribute their knowledge and expertise, so that all members can benefit.

Who are the WCPF and the PAGB?
Well firstly the WCPF which was founded in 1932 is made up of 99 clubs and societies covering a large area, which extends from Swindon in the east to Lands End in the west, and from Stroud in the north to Weymouth in the south. The organisation runs competitions, conferences, meetings and master classes for all affiliated members within the area, and represents its members at the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain is the national organising body for all photographic clubs and societies throughout Great Britain through 15 geographical regions known as Federations. They, in turn, organise similar functions but this time on a national basis and are the official link to the International Federation of Photographic Art. The IFPA represents international bodies throughout the World and issues its own awards for achievement in photography. The PAGB offer its own distinctions known as 'awards' for photographic merit, directly to qualifying members.
Individual membership to each of these organisations is not possible and can only be achieved through membership of an affiliated club. Both the WCPF and the PAGB publish newsletters which are circulated to all member clubs on a regular basis, and which contain relevant information on subjects of interest to photographic groups. Bleadon Photographic Group receive these publications and they are available to members on request. They are both available online, with excellent websites.
